Cutting straight to the point: please do not do things just for the sake of doing it, or because you have "ulterior motives" (i.e. collateral gains), or because everybody else is doing it. Do something because you truly enjoy it and because nothing else makes you as happy as it does.
-_-
Sure, you may be doing something because you like it, but do you dare say that instead of the main course, your passion for whatever you are doing is actually only the side dish? Because, I dare cross my heart and honestly say that I've never thought much of what comes with it. I know my focus should be on what I'm supposed to be doing, what someone else has given me the trust and responsibility to do.
Yes, of course when it comes to people who matter, I give it extra thoughts but when I'm appearing with that identity, then I keep to that identity. You keep to it; you do not let slip your unprofessional identity.
I've actually made peace with seeing people doing things because they want to gain something out of it (and not because they truly love it) but what Tim said about music and the industry made me re-evaluate everything- including my own attitude towards everything. He said that the originality of music is in the message it wants to send across and not just about having good-looking people on stage. Sure, like he said, it is not a bad thing but a bonus and I agree with him. Likewise, it is good that your are driven to do it because you want something out of it- that something being anything besides the satisfaction that comes from doing your job- but please prioritize properly.
Like how in front of Dongbang in the concert hall I am a sing-screaming tear-streaked Cassie but in front of Dongbang outside the concert hall I am chill and do not scream into or flash my cameras in their faces. Or, crazy practicing dance because you want to break your boundaries and improve and not because you want to be dope or be called as such by others. See the difference?
Of course, there will be little temptations along the way and well, what can we do when we are only humans? I get tempted too, but I keep my focus on what it should be on. Again, the P word: priorities. And the R word: RESPONSIBILITY.
Gah, I'm ranting. Of course I am ranting; I've kept this in me for weeks now and I really don't understand why people do things for another reason instead of for what doing it should be about.
Gahhh. OTL
This is not limited to only occupations (if I can say it this way) and the such. It can also apply to what you're doing on a daily basis. I mean, yeah… it should be understandable by now. This, however, slides down to a lack of respect for yourself. I just feel this way. Lol.
GAHHH!!! If this is being a romantic at heart for believing that people should do things passionately because it makes them that happy, then... then... well, then I'm proud of it!
